Long time, no update, eh?

First year at McGill is done! I've taken two exams (Intro Linguistics and Storm Science) and have three to go (Atmospheric Science, Neuroscience, and Shayk-spea). What was with all these science classes for a literary ho like me? No clue. The weather classes ran together unpleasantly at times like juices on your Thanksgiving Day plate, but the neuroscience was insanely good fun. All I can say about Linguistics is that it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It made me want to coin this new word: "notomatopoeia" [natəmətəi۸], which is a word that is possibly the farthest away from mimicking or in any way resembling what is being described by it. Linguistics uses notomatopoeia for almost everything, including but not limited to "canonical babbling" and "high amplitude sucking."

The most hellish winter I've ever been through is now over and it is beautiful here. Every time I go outside I have to spend hours picking the sunshine out of my hair afterwards. Unfortunately, exams must be studied for, so Chinatown shenanigans have to be postponed.

Also coming up this weekend is Passover, and I'll be sharing a traditional(ish) meal with my interfaith facebook husband, with whom I've been happily married for about a month now. Except the bastard has a new boyfriend. I guess I wouldn't call him a boyfriend, but they're togetherish. I've met him once, at a Baroque concert (he's in the Music faculty like wtf) and we all had drinks after. I like the guy and I'll probably be seeing him at the Passover dinner.

I can't believe I'll be leaving Solin in less than a few weeks. It's unbelievable. I'll be giving up my extremely rectangular bedroom in a building a block from the crackhouse where a gangster got shot and moving into a square bedroom in the student ghetto where college girls are getting stabbed. At any rate, I'm going to miss my engineering friends and all their bitching about computer programming and differential equations very much who are in Solin from the summer. I will probably be over every other day anyway because the walk is so nice.

Things I've learned this year:

-dolphins' brains sleep one half at a time
-do NOT compost in your room
-if you leave your purse out of your sight for more than 20 seconds, secure it
-i love kicking people and punching them in the forehead. I love getting beaten up. I love it when you back away when I'm coming at you, and I love when you come at me so I can beat you back. It feels so good not to be afraid.
-you will never go hungry if you can cook
-why no one ever gave me a quick answer when I asked how a tornado happens, or how snowflakes form, or what is thunder, or why the sky is blue
-the multitudinous purposes of maple syrup ("sirop d'erable")
-that I have a chance at being really badass at a real sport
-how much I dislike your Canadian French accent when trying to understand what you're saying
-I'm acquiring a taste for wine from the non-grape juice communion. It could go downhill real fast.
-what endives are
-family is the BEST
-i miss my cello :'(
-don't wear heels unless a guy is taking you home or you've got cash for a cab
-that I've gone it alone and I can make it through in a new country

Summer plans include: moving into the new apartment, getting furniture, going to summer school, the monastery (?), and then whatever shall I do in August?

Anyway, better go study. Atmospheric Science exam tomorrow!
